The Hitachi C12FDH Dual Bevel Miter Saw

The C12FDH (amazon.com link) is a competent jack of all trades saw. With the powerful 15 amp motor churning out a max of 4,000 no load RPM, you will never lack the horsepower to get through your materials. Anything from hardwoods to aluminium sashes, to panels and fibreboards will be your stomping ground with the powerful new 12” Hitachi blade. With miter compound cuts ranging from 0-45 degrees left and right, and the same capability with bevels but up to 48 degrees, this power tool is something to get excited about.

Cutting Capacity of the C12FDH

The 12” blade spinning at a max of 4,000 RPM combined with the design of the tabletop gives a cross cut capability of 2 3/4” x 8”, or 3 1/2” x 5 1/2”. With an “under blade capacity” of 7” you will be able to cut through anything up to a max of 7”, which is impressive for a miter saw.

Cutting Accuracy

The Hitachi has a dual bevel control system which allows for more accuracy and control over your bevel cuts. The primary locking mechanism is engaged where your bevel is to be set at, then a secondary adjustment level can be fine tuned to get the exact angle that you need, once your material is set in place. The extra finesse that this setting can give you over angles ensures that what you envision, will manifest. The unique way of engineering the laser marker system in place also helps to give control over the accuracy of your cuts. The laser can be activated before you start up the blade, so you know exactly where the blade will drop before you cut. Straight out of the box most users have found that their laser was perfectly set up, however some may need minimal adjustments.

The Hitachi Fence

The aluminium fence on the C12FDH sits at a height of 5 1/8”, and the capability of the saw to cut up to 7” depth means that materials fit snug up against the fence. Vertical cuts of large pieces and crown moulding is a breeze with this capacity, and the fences slide nicely and pivot to whatever adjustments your work requires.

Extra Features on the C12FDH

Behind the fence is a splinter guard, which helps to decrease splinters and rips in your work, and the ergonomically designed handle is perfect to grip and use. A wide base and support system helps to keep the miter saw rigid, vibration free, and prevents easily made mistakes that can come with slippage.

The Hitachi Warranty

Hitachi is a company known for producing some of the worlds finest tools in all endeavours of industry, and their warranty proves this. The C12FDH comes with a 5 year warranty, which shows that they stand behind their craft.

Who Would This Saw Suit?

With a 12” blade and a 15 amp motor, this is a serious saw for workers. Sure, it will be great for a hobbyist, however there are several things that make it more suited to a contractor. It is a bit heavier than other saws at 46 pounds, although for the capabilities of the saw, that isn’t too bad. This saw is also surprisingly quiet for something so powerful, although it is a lot quieter with an aftermarket blade. For some hobbyists or DIY folks, this saw might be “overkill”, but if you take on a range of small and large projects, this would be exactly what you need. With a larger miter saw, you can easily perform smaller projects, but with a smaller saw, you can’t just work on bigger projects as easily.
