Cut Quality
This miter saw was designed to produce extremely smooth cuts with top level accuracy time after time. This performance is partially due to it’s 2-steel rail sliding system. In addition to fluid cuts, this design helps save space.
Not only can this saw provide beautifully even cuts, it can do so on a wide variety of material. The vertical cutting capacity of the XSL06PT is a solid 5-1/4″. The crown molding cutting capacity is 6-5/8″ (nested). Both impressive cut ranges compete with other best in class miter saws. The XSL06PT sports a highly functional miter range, 0° to 60° (left and right) with positive stops at 0°, 15°, 22.5°, 31.6°, 45° and 60°. As well as a wide bevel range of 0° to 48° (left and right).
Ease of Use
Like many power tools from Makita, the XSL06PT was designed to supply easy-to-use power and accuracy. As part of Makita’s DXT line, it does just that. Users report satisfaction at this saw’s out-of-box accuracy.
Weighing in at just over 60 lbs, this is not a very portable saw. And although the 2-steel rail sliding system design does save space, you’re still going to need about all the space you can find. However, this weight and heft contributes to the sturdy performance that people love about this saw. Not to mention, it is smaller and lighter than a number of bulky competitors.
Durability
Despite being battery powered, this robust miter saw can cut just about anything all day long. The two 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion batteries that power this saw supply 36V of power. The XSL06PT features a brushless motor capable of putting out up to 4,400 RPM. Combined with Makita’s Automatic Speed Change technology, which regulates cutting speed and torque appropriately, the mechanics of this miter saw equate to consistent and durable power.
The Makita XSL06PT was engineered for long lasting performance. This is largely due to the brushless motor design. Makita is in the record books as the first company to utilize brushless motors in power tools, they originally did so in 2003. Brushless motors are a more modern and intelligently designed style of motor and thus provide appropriate amounts of power to tasks and readjust when necessary. It’s this along with a simpler mechanical composition that keeps brushless motors going nearly 1.5 times as long as it’s traditional counterpart.

Makita offers a generous 3-year professional warranty for this miter saw as well as the batteries needed to operate it. Most users don’t have issues with this miter saw. Overall Value
The XSL06PT is one of the best reviewed miter saws Makita has recently released. It’s powerful, accurate, and long-lasting. It certainly falls into the higher end of price range, but then again it also falls into the higher end of the quality range. Generally you get what you pay for, and there are lots of satisfied buyer of this saw who would buy it again but won’t have to because of it’s impressive lifespan.
Although the increase in price may come as a shock to veteran craftsmen used to plugging in their power tools, most users find battery-power to be extremely convenient and surprisingly functional.
Our Verdict
Few newer miter saws have received such across the board praise as the XSL06PT. It is creatively designed, offering precision, usability, and durability without sacrificing power or versatility. This miter saw is a solid choice for a wide range of uses. It would be an asset for projects as simple as D.I.Y. woodworking or as substantial as full fledged construction.
