The Makita XSL02Z provides versatile accuracy in it’s most compact form.  This saw was engineered with a 4-Steel Rail Sliding System for increased precision and spacial efficiency.  Don’t let the 7-1/2″ blade size fool you, this miter saw boasts an impressive cut capacity.  It can cut 2″ x 12″ at 90° and 2″ x 8″ at 45°.  The quality of cut is optimized by Automatic Speed Change™ technology which adjusts cutting speed and torque while you’re cutting to maximize performance.

Operating the XSL02Z is straightforward and comfortable because of intuitive design and accommodating features like the rubberized soft grip handle.  It miters 0-47° left and 0-57° right; and bevels 0-45° left and 0-5° right.  Although this saw is technically referred to as a “dual bevel” miter saw, it only goes 5° to the right which doesn’t count as ” dual bevel” in many craftsmen’s book.  Still, effortless cuts are made even easier with positive miter stops at: 0°, 15°, 22.5°, 30° and 45° left and right.

Durability

The Makita XSL02Z features a BL™ Brushless Motor with a direct drive gearbox capable of delivering up to 5,700 RPM.  This is more than enough power to give you clean, hyper-accurate cuts.  The direct drive gearbox increases cutting efficiency while reducing the need for maintenance or replacement.  Gear life is extended by Soft Start technology which also lends itself to smooth cuts right from the start.

Overall Value

Although it’s a relatively new miter saw with relatively few reviews, the outstanding reviews it does have make a strong argument for it’s value.  The portability and cordless convenience provided by the XSL02Z is enough for some woodworkers to give it a try.  The wide range of versatility, surprisingly large cut capacity, and high level of accuracy are more than enough benefit for just about anyone.  The only complaint reviewers had mention “a rough slide”.  In this rare case, dissatisfied buyers generally found that after sending the product back, Makita sent them a issue-free replacement.  For the vast majority of reviewers, the benefits of this miter saw greatly outweigh any drawbacks.

Our Verdict

This is a good miter saw.  Many would argue that this is a great miter saw.  Makita has a good reputation for innovative and industry-leading technology.
