Cut Quality
The majority of reviewers who have used this saw are satisfied and generally describe it’s performance as accurate and reliable. Reliable accuracy mixed with a relatively impressive cut capacity of up to 12″ at 90° and 8-1/2” at 45°, makes for a valuable combination.
Ease of Use
Getting a solid cut out of this saw is pretty straightforward. Makita’s marketing advertises that the LS1018 “delivers large cutting capacity and accuracy right out of the box”, and it pretty much does. Although to be fair, an adjustment or two may need to be made for specific needs. The direct drive motor with soft start ensures effortless cutting without any snags. This is also true of the electric brake—just in case.
For comfortable handling and controlled operation the saw comes with a rubber, ergonomic D-handle combined with an enlarged trigger. Makita also included a see-through blade guard system so that users can see the blade and the cut line clearly.
On the other hand, there are a couple of complaints from dissatisfied reviewers. The main review complaint is that the LS1018 has “rough slide rail bearings”. Another less common but still relevant criticism is that the positive stop at the 45° miter is not absolutely accurate.
Durability
The Makita LS1018 sports a direct drive motor with soft start. Without any belts to slip or break and such a smooth startup, you should be able to expect this saw’s 13 AMP motor to last.

The Makita LS1018 packs precision, cut capacity, and trusted reliability into a compact and extremely portable package.
