Cut Quality

The LS0815F delivers smooth, consistent cuts.  This is particularly impressive coming from such a small and portable saw.  Much of this saw’s accuracy can be attributed to it’s 10.5 AMP direct drive motor that features soft start.  The direct drive motor lends itself to effortless cuts due to the lack of belts to slip or get stuck, not to mention replace.  Soft start helps users make smooth cuts while the electric brake adds convenience.

Another aspect of this miter saw engineered for accuracy is the linear ball bearing system.  This sliding rail system allows for a 12” crosscutting capacity at 90° and a 8-1/2” capacity at 45°.  This saw has an increased vertical cutting capacity due to it’s 2-1/2″ tall fence.  The LS0815F miters 0° to 50° left and 0 to 60° right.  It features positive stops at 0°, 15°, 22.5°, 31.6°, 45°, and 50° (left and right), and an additional stop at 60° (right).  Bevel adjustments can be made with the dual rear handle bevel lock which adjusts 0°- 48° (left) and 0°- 5° (right) with positive stops at 0° and 45° (left).

Ease of Use

The sheer portability of this miter saw adds points to it’s “ease of use” score.  Weighing in at 31.1 lbs, this is a tool that can be transported anywhere.  Storage is another added convenience.  Measuring 13″ when folded, this saw can fit easily into tight spaces in workshops, tool sheds, and truck beds.

It’s also easy to make clean cuts with the LS0815F.  Makita included a see-through blade guard system, and a L.E.D. light to increase visibility and therefore precision.  For added comfort, this saw features an ergonomic D-handle made of rubber and a large trigger.

Overall Value

When considering the value of the LS0815F, it’s important to take the price into consideration.  This saw is relatively cheap, especially coming from Makita.  While this is a tool that would improve most workshop collections, unsure buyers might be relieved by the low-risk price tag.  That, combined with the long lifespan and overall usability makes it hard to argue that this saw isn’t a good saw.

Our Verdict

The Makita LS0815F is a solid miter saw.  The small blade size and single bevel means this saw lends itself more to the D.I.Y.-er than to a construction site, however it can be put to a variety of uses.  It’s accuracy, and portability stand out.  This is the kind of saw that’s ideal for a wide range of projects from crown molding installation to finish carpentry.
